Every run starts with a single footfall. If you haven’t run for a while (or ever) don’t worry, we’re built for this. Footprint evidence from Lake Mungo in NSW shows footprints made by humans from 20,000 years ago including one male runner estimated to be 6’6”with 30cm (EU 45, US 12)feet sprinting at 20kph (12mph).This “Bigfoot” left us with an idealised image of how our footprints might look today if we ran like the homo sapiens bipedal animals that we are, unrestrained by office work, takeaway food, comfy chairs, and shoes. Well, we’re not all 6’6”, and some of us like wearing shoes and eating takeout, so we take a common sense approach, more “I’d like to enjoy running without getting injured” than “I want to run naked in the mud-flats of central Australia like my ancient ancestors.” However, everything starts with your feet, they are your base, your platform, your springboard - changing the way you run will change your feet. So get ready for stronger, more flexible, and if you’re lucky - maybe even bigger feet.
